- Get off the couch.. If you’ve spent the last Friday nights at one of your homes, suggest going out and trying a new restaurant or seeing a new movie. If he turns down your ideas, you can ask him to choose something else or you can go out without him anyway. Of course, there is a third option which would be to stay on the couch, but that won’t break the routine.
- Don’t be afraid to challenge even the nice things you’re used to. If you usually have a home-cooked meal together on Saturday evenings, try doing something else next weekend. We often get into relationship routines and then feel guilty when we stop. Don’t make a big deal over the fact that you’re breaking the pattern. Instead, focus on coming up with something new and exciting to try.
- Surprise your partner with a vacation. If there is a long weekend coming up and you know he has the time off, plan a special trip for the two of you. You don’t need to fly anywhere for a vacation to be exciting; road trips can be just as fun. With the economy the way it is these days, that might be more in your budget. If there is a place that he’s been saying he wants to go but hasn’t made the time for, you could surprise him with that destination.
- Reignite the romance. We’re all more romantic at the beginning of our relationships. If you and your partner are no longer romantic, surprise him with a romantic evening. Make his favorite dinner for him complete with candles and soft music. You can also recreate your first date, take him back to the place where you first started your relationship.
